The website is primarily tailored towards beginners – with a vast catalog of articles, we aim to give you the tools necessary to help you learn the skills needed to brew excellent tasting “coffee shop quality” coffee – in the comfort of your own home.
Mark does his best to simplify the information provided at Bean Ground so you can easily follow along at home without needing to pull out a barista pocket reference book to understand the terminology and language used.
Hopefully, the reviews and recommendations will help you to make better-informed decisions when buying the best coffee gear and finding excellent quality coffee.
Mark’s Story
Mark’s journey can be traced back over 25 years when he graduated from North Lindsey hospitality and catering college in Northern England.
His career began when he landed his first full-time job as a Commis Chef in a busy hotel in South Yorkshire, England.
It didn’t take long to realize that he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life stuck in the sweaty kitchen as a Chef, Mark took the initiative and steps needed to move into the “front of house” rather than the ”back of house” kitchen environment.
After a few bumps and hurdles to first overcome Mark managed to switch up his carrier and found himself dumping his chef whites in favor of a barista apron.
Soon after, he began working and eventually managing popular cafes and restaurants in Doncaster, Manchester, Soho London, and other locations around the United Kingdom.
A few years later he landed a position in the Middle East where he spent over a decade running various hospitality operations within the Hilton hotel group and Kempinski hotel chains located in Fujairah (UAE), Ajman (UAE), and Dubai (UAE).
– and so the journey began.
Fast forward. Today, Mark is enjoying life somewhere in South East Asia. He’s a stay-at-home Dad who loves nothing more than to write about all things to do with coffee.
Today his primary focus is on Bean Ground, which is a coffee resource managed by Mark Morphew along with a small circle of coffee enthusiasts. Mark hopes that he can use this online coffee blog as a way to pass on to others a little of what he has learned over the years in the coffee industry.
If you’re a beginner or even a seasoned coffee pro, by following Mark’s expert advice you will be able to learn how to brew great-tasting coffee at home or improve on some of your techniques – minus the “fluff” and confusion, of course.
